Cap/Iron Man Big Bang

Big Bang posting has begun! It’s time to go over instructions for how the posting will work.

Have your completed fic and art formatted and ready to post by your selected posting date.

Each participating writer and artist will upload their own fic/art individually. For long term accessibility reasons we require the finished fic be hosted on AO3 (probably the most convenient) or LJ/DW. Do not use tumblr as your primary fic hosting site. For art, we prefer one of the usual image hosting sites (deviantart, flickr, photobucket, private server, etc) but tumblr is allowed if a direct link to the image file is provided in the community masterpost as well.

If you need to make an AO3 account, please request an invite here and keep in mind that it might take a few days for you to get it and be able to create the account. If you run into trouble, contact us, asap! Be sure to add your works to the 2017 Captain America/Iron Man Big Bang collection if you are using AO3.

On your chosen posting day, ONE member from your team is required to make a masterpost to the main comm here on Dreamwidth using the following form:

By claiming a story, you assert that you will collaborate with your author(s) to produce custom artwork to accompany their story when posting begins in November. There is no penalty-free dropping out after this point. You do not need to be a member of the cap_ironman comm or have a DW account to make your claim. Anonymous comments on this post are enabled.

Acceptable art includes traditional art, digital art, and fanvids. Manips and fanmixes are not allowed for this Big Bang. For fanvids, the footage should match the fic canon, and the video should be at least 1min long.

It will be your responsibility to open communications with your team members and keep in touch for the duration of the collaboration.

A word about warnings: Many of these stories include bad language, substance abuse, sexual situations, violence, etc. We limited warnings here to the big stuff. If you have a specific concern and would like the mods to vet a story draft before you make your choices, please let us know at cap.im.events@gmail.com.

Welcome back to our newest Support & Chatter post this Captain America/Iron Man Big Bang round. All information about the Big Bang 2017 can be found here.

Remember that we do not have an official sign-up period and for that reason do not do official and mandatory check-ins. As long as you get in a draft before September 27th you’re signed-up for this Big Bang and after that there is no backing out. But that date is still a long way off and working away all alone and in silence can be frustrating. We all know. We've all been there. So, to keep us all excited and motivated we’re again starting up our informal weekly "Support and Chatter" posts.

Some people here are longfic writers, some people here might attempt their first longer story. Don't be afraid. Talk to each other, help each other out and share tips and ideas. We're all excited to see what comes of it in the end!

This is open to absolutely everyone who makes this challenge great -- writers, artists, beta readers, cheerleaders, and readers! Come in, make friends and talk to each other. We want everyone to have a good time and be motivated!

We're a month in now, and even if people aren't actively working on BB yet, we're glad to see many are interested in joining, considering how many mentions there were fo it in the Stony Trumps Hate charity auction! Speaking of Stony Trumps Hate, bidding ends in...a bit over 17 hours from now! Definitely keep an eye out for that, and we're really proud of our fandom for coming together to take a stand and do some good in the world!

Other than STH, the Superhusbands Aluminum Anniversary Anthology deadline is also drawing closer, with less than two weeks until the deadline for creator sign-ups! But maybe you're still working on your Reverse Big Bang story before you can even start thinking about all these other events? Also keep in mind that creator sign-ups for our very own Captain America/Iron Man Tiny Reverse Bang are also in progress. We are taking art now, but writing prompts will go up in less than a month. Let yourself be inspired.

Wait, we're not done yet! On other parts of LJ, marvel_bang has also started up sign-ups! Their minimum is 10k words, so for those Steve/Tony stories you can't quite get into our cap-ironman BB, here's the place to submit! Sign-ups for Marvel BB will close on Jun 1st for authors (just a few more days!) and September 2nd for writers.

Rules and the basics:

Thanks to our great community of excited writers and especially artists we are one of the few Big Bangs that does not have early sign-ups. To enter the 2017 Big Bang, you must submit a draft prior to sign-ups closing on Sept 27th. Statements of intent to participate are not needed - just show up by Sept 27th with your draft and you are signed up as a writer!

To participate in the 2017 Big Bang as an artist, all you need to do is claim a summary on September 28th. No prior sign-up is required.

Fics should be complete by the beginning of November and posting ready by your team’s posting date. The minimum wordcount for this Big Bang is 25k. Submitted drafts must be mostly complete by the sign up date, including an outlined ending, so that your artist has a clear idea after claiming of where you’re taking the story in the next few weeks. When you send in a draft we need you to be sure that you will be able to finish and post your story at a posting date in November, because from this point on you are collaborating with someone and penalties for dropping out at this stage might include a temporary ban for collaborating event on this community. As a rough guideline you should have at least 80% of your drafted story written by then, which would be at least roughly 20k of the required 25k wordcount, and we will not accept drafts that are not at least 20k. The important thing is that you feel absolutely confident you can finish the story in time and post it in November.

Instructions for sending in your draft will be put up in September.

This challenge is run by the cap_ironman community and this is a Steve/Tony fest, so we’re looking for fics with a focus on the relationship between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark (in any setting or continuity you can think of). In gen fics, secondary pairings should be kept to the background and the focus should be clearly on Steve and Tony and their interactions. If there is romance then the focus should be on the Steve/Tony relationship. If other pairings are included, they should be in the background. We do not allow poly relationships in the main pairing: a fic focused on Steve/Tony/Other Character does not fill the requirements of the challenge this year. The only exception here are any variations of multiple multiverse or time-travel Steves/Tonys, for example, Steve/Tony/Tony, Steve/Tony/Steve (or more!). Other non-Steve/Tony pairings, past/prior/casual relationships, poly relationships including other characters can all feature in the background or during the set-up of the story, but again the focus of the story’s main plot should be on the Steve/Tony content and the Steve/Tony pairing/pre-slash/gen relationship should be the sole “endgame” in some way.

What does "endgame" mean? Does it mean they have to be together at the end? Not exactly. This means for example the point of your story should be to write about Steve/Tony and not to write 20k of breakup to set them up with other people as their true loves. For example: a story that ends with character death ending where one of them is left to pine and grief for his one true love and regret missed chances, a love triangle where Steve and Tony finally realize they are the only ones for each other and the romantic trouble gets resolved as Steve/Tony, or stories that deal with them breaking up because incursions or them never getting together because of fighting each other over issues while we know they love each other and it causes all the angst are all fine for this challenge.

This challenge is for new stories. Using a fic you’ve already started is fine, so long as no part of it has been published before anywhere else. Fics that have been previously posted -- either entirely or in parts as a WIP -- do not qualify for this fest.

Sequels that can be read on their own are allowed and welcome.

We don’t allow pre-formed teams, and we expect all participants to be open to working with new people. We also can’t guarantee that a particular author and artist be paired together as there will be a random element to the claiming process.

To participate, authors will be required to have an Ao3 account and will have the responsibility of posting their own fics to our Ao3 collection. If you don’t have an account, you can request one here. If for any reason you do not receive an invitation through the queue and it’s already close to your posting date, please contact us and we will try and provide you with an invite code.

Detailed posting instructions will follow closer to the deadline. Guidelines for the accompanying fanworks will be available in the posts relating to artist sign-ups.

Please watch the c_im_bigbang comm for additional information. There we will also provide you with informal “Talk posts” where writers and artists can talk about their ideas, their progress, and potential beta readers or interested by-standers can come in and provide moral support. It is a long writing period from now until November, and the key is to keep focused and motivated. Many of us will also hang out in the official comm IRC chat and you can come in at any time to talk about your writing and, when it’s time, also your art creating woes.

The Sign--ups:

Any writer who submits a draft prior to Sept 27th will be officially signed up for the fest. Any artist who claims a draft in the September 30th claims post is likewise signed up for the Big Bang. There is no penalty-free dropping out after.

We are not asking you to state your intention to participate this year, but we’ll hang around the “Support and Chatter” posts and hope that many of you are just as excited as we are to get started.

Marvel Bang has been running successfully for a couple of years. It is open to all stories set in a canon of the greater Marvel universe or focused on Marvel characters and pairings. The minimum word count is 10k.

So if you have an idea for a story that does not fit our BB, don’t think the world doesn’t want your story! If you feel unsure whether your draft will meet the required word count, consider signing up for this challenge! There is a place for stories of all shapes and sizes in fandom!

Marvel Bang Dates have been published already, so check them out. The sign-ups start on May 14.
