The Cap-IM Reverse Bang Date Claims are coming—it's time for you to decide on a posting date!

Date Claims will open on Saturday, April 24th, 18:00 ET (what time is this for me?) and close on April 26th at 18:00 ET.

Remember that if no one on your team is available to claim a date, you can ask someone else to proxy-claim for you!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

• By claiming a posting date, you are committing to having your work complete and ready for posting by the date you have picked; this counts as your check in for the RBB. If your team does not claim a date by April 26th 18:00 EDT or email the mods prior to claims, we will assign your team to a posting date.


• If you have any special requests, such as pre-arranging a set posting date due to personal circumstances, please email cap.im.events@gmail.com as soon as possible so we can try to accommodate you (please note that we cannot guarantee anything, and will consider requests on a first-come, first-serve basis).


• If no team member is able to submit your date claims on behalf of the team, please use a proxy to submit a claim on your behalf. If you can't find a proxy, please email the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com.


• By submitting a claim, your team is committing to publishing your works on any of the dates chosen. If you believe you won't be able to finish your work by next month, please communicate your concerns with your partner(s) and the mods as soon as possible. You can find all extension information in our Posting Instructions post.


• Incomplete works, failure to meet the deadline, or a complete lack of communication with your team on and after your posting date will result in a participant's temporary ban from some cap_ironman events — for further details, read through our Defaulting and Participation Eligibility guidelines.

HOW TO CLAIM YOUR DATE

31 posting dates are available from 1st May to 31st May. Only one team will be posting on any given day so that your Stevetony content is staggered for people to enjoy!

Before choosing the posting dates you will list, please make sure it will work for everyone on the team. You are required to have all works posted on your confirmed posting date by noon EST so that you can send the mods the masterpost information on time. This means that if an artist is working with two creators (was double claimed), they will all post their fanworks on the same day.

Posting date claims will be run via a Google Form on a first come, first-served basis.

• The Date Claims Form is linked here, as is the live claims spreadsheet that will show the claims happening real-time. The form will only open when date claims start, but you can access the link beforehand.


• Your posting team is determined by the artist's CODENAME as given to you in the RBB matching email.


• The person claiming on behalf of a team needs to know their CODENAME and 3-5 posting dates to list in order of preference.


• Posting dates will be allocated in the order that forms are received.


• Teams that submit forms where all dates listed have already been picked will be asked to resubmit.


• If your team has special requirements to due participant schedules, you must contact the event mods via email at cap.im.events@gmail.com before April 24th.

Remember, only one person claims on behalf of their team.

Round 2 Claims Post

Round 1 of claims is closed. Folks who have not yet claimed, and those who still have one participation slot open (remember, there's a maximum of two signups, so if you haven't submitted an entry you can claim 2!) can both turn up and claim, so please do spread the word!

• Artists, remember that writers have different schedules and timezones, and that though we try to accommodate everyone, your art may not be claimed in the first few hours. Please be patient, and don’t look at claims as a competition.
  • This challenge is about pairing like-minded creators who will work together to produce exciting new Steve/Tony content; sometimes it takes a while for the right person to come along!
• Writers, if the claim time is inconvenient for you, we encourage you to find someone who will put in a claim for you by proxy.
  • All your proxy has to do is comment on the claims post instead of you when the time comes, providing your username, email and claims as set out above in this post.
  • If you do not already know someone who can do this for you, you can email the mod team (cap.im.events@gmail.com) for assistance in finding a proxy.

When matching is complete, we will send out emails to connect artists with their writers, along with further instructions.

NOTE: After you receive the email, PLEASE RESPOND DIRECTLY CONFIRMING you have received the information. Please wait until you have replied to this email before contacting your partner. After confirming the assignment email has been received, it is the artists’ and writers’ responsibilities to open communications with team members and keep in touch for the duration of the collaboration.

All Reverse Bang fanworks should be completed, formatted, and ready to post in full by your posting date.

Each participating creator is responsible for posting their work on their scheduled posting day. A challenge-fulfilling work must be posted all at once, and it should be complete as a stand-alone. We require you to link to your partner's work when your team has posted, and it's courteous to acknowledge the hard work they've put into this collaboration!

All works must be posted on your scheduled posting date by noon Eastern Time. If something comes up, contact the mods. Extra works (such as sequels or bonus art) will only be included in the Challenge Masterlist if posted before the end of the Reverse Bang posting period, and a link must be sent to mods.

Posting Day Checklist:

1. Post your completed work to AO3.


2. Add your work to our 2021 Cap-IM RBB collection (alternatively, post directly to the collection by clicking on the link and then the "post new work to collection" button).


3. Add links to your team's work(s) on your RBB post(s) once they too have posted.


4. Designate one team member to fill out our Masterpost Information Form by noon ET so that the mods can create a Team Masterpost, and later the Event Masterlist.

POSTING YOUR WORK

ARCHIVE OF OUR OWN

All fanworks are required to be posted as unlocked AO3 works for longevity and accessibility reasons. You can crosspost your work to any channels and platforms of your choice on your posting date after you have posted to AO3.

Here are some options commonly used when posting a Reverse Bang collaboration:

• Inspired By — The artist creates an AO3 work, and the writer or podficcer posts their work to AO3 separately, linking the two works. This is a good option if your team prefers not to embed the artwork into the story.


• Co-Authors — Creating a single AO3 work with both creators listed as co-authors, with the artwork embedded into the story.


• Author's Note — The creators post independent works and link to each other's works at the top of their AO3 work, describing the association in their own words without using an AO3 function (or in addition to it).

If you need to make an AO3 account, please request an invite here and keep in mind that it might take a few days for you to get it and be able to create the account. If you run into trouble, contact the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com ASAP so we can sort out an invite.

When posting your work onto AO3, be sure that it is in our 2021 Captain America/Iron Man Reverse Bang collection. You can do this by either posting the work directly to the collection, or by manually adding "cap_ironman_2020_RBB" in the Post to Collection / Challenges field in the Associations section when posting your draft. Do not worry if the collection does not appear as an option in the AO3 dropdown menu (this is a common glitch); simply add the collection manually and your work will appear.

ARTISTS:

Do not host your artwork on a site where it can easily be deleted, requires special access, or uses a link that can be broken.

In addition to your entry for the RBB, each team requires a banner, which you will submit to us via the Masterpost Information Form.

Please follow the guidelines below when creating your banner:

• The banner must be Safe For Work (SFW).


• The banner must be 580px wide and 200px tall or a higher resolution image with the same dimensions (e.g. 1160:400) so that when resized it won't be squished. Please note that the mods will crop your image to size if it is sent incorrectly.


• The banner can be a SFW crop of the artwork or a specially made banner for the accompanying fic.


• The banner can include such details as work title(s) and team member usernames


• The person in charge of the filling out the Masterpost Information Form must provide a direct image link of the banner.

FILLING OUT YOUR MASTERPOST INFORMATION FORM

On your chosen posting day, ONE member from your entire team is required to send through your team's links and posting information by filling out the Masterpost Information Form by noon ET so that mods can create your Team Masterpost.

Each team is expected to coordinate internally. Please make sure that you have collected all the information necessary to fill out the Form.

The Masterpost Information Form will ask you for:

• Direct image URL to team banner


• Preferred usernames for all team members


• Work summaries


• Word count of fic, length of podfic and fanvids


• Rating of works


• Warnings for works


• AO3 links to all works


• Tags for your masterpost, including Dreamwidth username tags

You can find all of the community's existing tags here, and the relevant tag options (universe and genre) will also be provided in the Masterpost Information Form for you to choose from.

Important tip: If you have created a draft of your AO3 work, its link will be the same as when you publish it. This means that you can pass on your AO3 link to the person filling out the Masterpost Information Form before you publish your work on the posting day.

Please remember to fill out our Masterpost Information Form by noon ET of your posting day.

Your team's masterpost will then be published on your behalf using the cap-ironman event mod account on our cap_ironman Dreamwidth community and our main Tumblr.

CROSSPOSTS

If you'd like to share your work on other social media platforms, please indicate that it is a work for the Cap-Iron Man Reverse Bang challenge and link to your partner's work(s) in the post.

If posting on Tumblr, be sure to cap_ironman and use #capimrbb or #capimrbb2021 within the first 5 tags so the mods will be able to find it, or email us a rebloggable link to guarantee that it'll be reblogged. Please note that we'll be queueing the posts as we see them, so it may take a couple of days for them to be shared on our blog. If your post features art, we will only reblog SFW (safe for work) posts: we encourage you to post a 'safe for work' crop with a link or cut to the full version.

Remember this is a collaborative event; we will not reblog Reverse Bang posts that do not link to their accompanying work(s).

EXTENSIONS

We strongly urge you to make sure that you are finished and ready to post before your posting date. If you cannot make your posting date for any reason, please let us know! We will work with you; please don't just disappear.

Should you need an extension, email us at least 24 hours before your posting date. You must be confident that you will be able to finish your work with an extension. The extension will apply to your entire team.

We understand that due to unexpected issues, you may need to ask for an extension. If that becomes the case, please include the following in your email to the mods:

• The writer/podficcer's current word count and a percentage of how complete the work is, or the percentage of how complete the artwork/fanvid is.


• An estimation of how much time your team needs to be able to post. Please note that small edits for typos and such can be done after your posting date, but you do need to post a finished product.


• The reason your team is asking for an extension. This helps to contextualise your situation and will also aid mods in planning future events.

Please note that your team cannot ask for an indefinite extension, and only one extension will be granted per team, so make sure you are as clear as possible about how much time you will need to finish.

If you fail to contact us and do not work with your partner(s) to post on time, you will be considered a defaulting participant, and the penalty for this is a year-long ban from all collaborative and exchange events run by the Cap-IM community. This penalty will only apply to the defaulting member of the team, not the team as a whole. For details check our Defaulting Guidelines.

Guidelines for Artists

• Remember to read through our General Event Policies and Guidelines for All Participants, as well as the artists' guidelines outlined below.


• Acceptable artwork submission(s) are traditional and digital art, and fanvids. Other visual media—such as edits, manipulations, fanmixes, or works that rely on or are derivative of existing material—are not eligible for this Reverse Bang.


• Fanvids must be a minimum of 1.5 minutes long by the time of posting.
• An artwork must be complete and on unlined paper by the time of posting


• In addition to this, you are required to create a story banner for your team, 580px wide and 200px tall or a higher resolution image with the same dimensions (e.g. 1160:400). The banner can be a SFW crop of the artwork or a specially made banner for the accompanying fic.


• Fanworks must be created solely for the Reverse Bang and should not have been previously posted anywhere. It will be acting as a prompt, so should be self-contained.


• An entry may consist of a single image, a multipanel work, a series of sequential images, or a fanvid. Sequential or multipanel artworks are permitted as long as they do not have large amounts of text (textless entries work best) and do not have an excessive number of images.


• To fulfill your part in the challenge, you are committing to finish the work(s) you submitted for claims and an additional team banner for the team Masterpost. After claims, you are welcome to create additional collaborative artworks for your team entry.


• Participants can submit works in progress for claims, but all final fanwork(s) need to be complete and ready for posting by your team’s posting date.


• There is no penalty-free dropping out after your summary has been claimed by a writer.


• As you're working on your submission(s), please keep in mind that artworks are posted anonymously during claims. We urge you to be tactful during the pre-claims period.

Art Submission Requirements

To officially enter the 2020 Reverse Big Bang, simply submit an art entry that is at minimum:

• one piece of art where all characters are recognisable


• a fanvid that's at least 50% complete with a visible theme

at any time from now until submissions close at the end of Wednesday, February 10th (on the last timezone).

All participating art must be submitted to cap.im.events@gmail.com by the February 10th submission deadline.

Fanworks do not need to be finished when submitted. You can send in works in progress and sketches but each entry must speak for itself. There will be no opportunity to explain their work prior to claims. Please keep in mind that Reverse Bang works serve as prompts and inspiration for writers, so we encourage you to submit something that sets a scene.

To submit your entry, send an email to cap.im.events@gmail.com with "2021 RBB ENTRY" and the username you want to sign up with as the subject line. Don't forget to attach your art file in a .JPG or .PNG format or submit a link for your vid. Please also name your file to include your username.

In the body of your email, include the following information:

Username: Email address you will check regularly for RBB communications: Universe(s) you are happy for the accompanying fic to be set in: Do Not Wants (DNWs) for the fic that will be based on your work (specific story elements that are major triggers or squicks for you): Languages, other than English, that you are happy to accept fic in: Do you want to opt out of second claims? Yes/No

Please note that if you say "any universe", you are saying that you will be happy with an accompanying fic from ANY of the Marvel universes (including but not limited to 1602, 1872, 616, 3490, AA, AvAc, EMH, MCU etc.) and that your artwork is able to match any universe. If your work is set in a specific era of a universe, please make sure to specify this. Similarly, if you do not want your art to be accompanied by a story that is an alternate universe inspired by a canon, please state this.

Anything that you do not mention as a DNW could be fair game for your writer. For example, if you dislike coffee shop AUs but did not put down "coffee shop AU" as a DNW in your submission email, then your claiming writer could write a coffee shop AU to accompany your work, and it will be up to you to negotiate with them.

Because this is a collaborative event, there is no penalty-free dropping out after your artwork(s) is claimed. If you run into trouble let us know as soon as possible so we can work with you! Dropping out after your work has been claimed will be considered defaulting on the challenge and will result in a temporary ban from some Cap-IM events.

Claiming Process

After you submit your entry and it's been approved by the mods, it will be available for claims on Saturday, February 13th. Claims are done anonymously. Writers will be claiming art based solely on the artwork and additional details you have provided. Out of fairness to all participants, please don't advertise which artwork(s) is yours. We don’t allow pre-formed teams, and we expect all participants to be open to working with new people.

Instructions on how to claim artwork will go up with the preview of art entries on February 11th.

If claims go quickly, a second round of claims may be opened to give more writers a chance to participate. This means that your RBB art will potentially be 'double claimed'—claimed by two writers—and you'll be coordinating with two partners. If you'd like to opt out of having your work double claimed, please let the mods know when you submit your work.

We cannot guarantee that every story will be double claimed.

If you are double claimed, you will collaborate with two writers as a team of three that posts on the same day. The writers can work independently of each other or choose to co-create fic, but that's up to them, and there must be a minimum total of two fics created for your work.

We understand that if you are double claimed, you may enjoy working with one of your partners more than the other. However, if you cannot value both creators, and recognise their works equally in public, we respectfully request that you do not put your work up for double claiming.

Creation Period and Posting

Once your work has been claimed and you've been teamed up with a writer, all that's left is to finish your RBB work(s)! If you have been double claimed, keep both stories in mind if you decide to make supplementary work. The posting period begins in May, and mods will be in touch before then with instructions on how to claim a posting date and post your entry. Remember to keep in touch with the rest of your team!

Each participating creator is responsible for posting their work on their scheduled posting day by noon Eastern Standard Time. A challenge-fulfilling work must be posted all at once, and it should be complete as a stand-alone. We require you to link to your partner's work when your team has posted.

On your chosen posting day, ONE member from your entire team is required to send through your team's links and posting information by filling out the Masterpost Information Form.

Before inserting an image into your work, please note that AO3 does not host images; this means you cannot upload an image directly to AO3. Instead you must upload it elsewhere and retrieve a direct image link once you do. (A direct image URL ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, etc.) We advise using a free image uploading service such as Imgur, though please keep in mind the T's and C's regarding hotlinking. We strongly encourage you not to host your image on Tumblr or Google Drive, as these links are liable to break. If none of these options work for you, please contact the mods at cap.im.events@gmail.com and we will work with you to host your art on one of the Cap-IM accounts.
