Guidelines for Claiming Creators

Remember to read through our General Event Policies and Big Bang Guidelines for All Participants, as well as the claiming creators' guidelines outlined below.

Acceptable fanwork(s) are:

at least one traditional or one digital artwork
a fanvid of at least one minute
a fanmix with cover art (writers must opt in)
a podfic of at least one scene (writers must opt in)
at least two manips or gifs (writers must opt in)

You will be creating fanwork to accompany your assigned writer's story, and this fanwork must be newly created. Your work must be created specifically and exclusively for the Big Bang, based on or inspired by the story that you claim.

In addition to this, you are required to create a story banner for the fic you claim, 580px wide and 200px tall or a higher resolution image with the same dimensions (e.g. 1160:400). The banner can be a SFW crop of the artwork or a specially made banner for the accompanying fic.

By claiming a story you are commiting to finishing all fanwork(s) by your team's posting date.

Claiming Process

To participate in the 2021 Cap-Iron Man Big Bang as a claiming creator, all you need to do is claim a summary on Saturday, 18 September. There is no prior sign-up available or required.

Please note that if you claim a fic that is in a language other than English, you must be able to read this language so that you can read the fic and communicate with your partner.

Please check carefully which fic codenames have opted into being claimed by an artist that is wanting to create fanmixes, gifs, manips or podfic.

Claims will be done on a first-come, first-serve basis.

In case you can't make a claim personally on Saturday, 18 September, you are allowed to ask someone to make a claim on your behalf (a proxy claim). There is no need to have a Dreamwidth or OpenID account to make a claim or proxy claim for someone, as anonymous commenting will be enabled.

Stories are posted anonymously. You must claim a story based solely on the summary and details provided. Writers are instructed to be as transparent as they can when providing details on warnings, other featured characters/relationships, etc.

Instructions on how to make a claim will go up with the preview of summaries on 16 September.

Because this is a collaborative event, there is no penalty free dropping out once you've claimed a work. Dropping out once you've been partnered up will be considered defaulting on the challenge and will result in a temporary ban, barring extenuating circumstances.

Creation Period and Posting

Once you've claimed a work and you've been teamed up with your creating partner(s), all you have to do is make accompanying artwork(s) for your partner's story, and remember to keep in touch with them throughout the event! The posting period begins in November, and we will be in touch before then with instructions on how to claim a posting date and post your entry.

Each participating creator is responsible for posting their work on their scheduled posting day by noon Eastern Time. A challenge-fulfilling work must be posted all at once, and it should be complete as a stand-alone. We require you to link to your partner's work when your team has posted.

On your chosen posting day, ONE member from your entire team is required to send through your team's links and posting information by filling out the Masterpost Information Form.

Before inserting an image into your work, please note that AO3 does not host images; this means you cannot upload an image directly to AO3. Instead you must upload it elsewhere and retrieve a direct image link once you do. (A direct image URL ends in .jpg, .png, .gif, etc.) We advise using a free image uploading service such as Imgur, though please keep in mind the T's and C's regarding hotlinking. We strongly encourage you not to host your image on Tumblr or Google Drive, as these links are liable to break.
