Big Bang 2015 - Support and Chatter #18

Welcome once again to the Big Bang 2015 support post!

Draft submission deadline is slowly sneaking closer day by day and I'm sure artists are impatiently waiting to finally see what goes up for claim. Although we do not need a polished up and finished fic at the time, how well does it look for your rough drafts? Going to make it? Writing at an insane pace?

Information about draft submission will go up in a few days, so keep an eye out.

Remember that we do not have an official sign-up period and for that reason do not do official and mandatory check-ins. You don't need to check-in below and talk about your progress to play, but if you want to talk or seek support from others you can. (And it's fun!) As long as you get in a draft before September Sept 23rd you’re signed-up for this Big Bang. That date is still a long way away and so we invite you to seek support from fellow writers and Steve/Tony lovers in our weekly "Support and Chatter" posts.

Oh geez, I feel like I oscillate between being in love with this fic and hating it with the power of a thousand suns.
I'm at 17k and I'm getting a bit worried about reaching the minimum word count. There are a few scenes I *know* it still needs, which will probably get me to 20k, but that's not gonna cut it. Maybe I'll just have to up the rating and throw in some smut ;-)
Just worried that adding stuff for the sake of word counts could "water down" the actual story. I'm also kinda fretting about my ability to whip up the rest of the words to get me to the 80% by next Wednesday.
I've been having a blast writing this, though (even if this silly fic has been mostly hand-written because it is a diva!) and I think I've learned a lot about the writing process from not posting as I go as I have in the past, so that's nice. I just feel like I've hit a gigantic roadblock in writing it that I am having trouble navigating around.
This fic is the One Ring. We loves it and we hates it.

Aw, you can do it! Another thing to think of if you're looking for ways to inflate a word count but not add things for the sake of adding is to look to the beginning of your fic after it's done and see if there's anything you want to set up better. Foreshadowing, maybe a scene to make a transition better, or some thing or feeling that came up at the end that you want to add more support for. The show vs. tell can also be a great way to get a few more words.

What road block are you having? Maybe the forum can help. ^^

(also, it's nice to see another hand-writer!)

Thanks for the cheerleading! I'm getting there - just about at the 20k for draft submission now.
It wasn't really a specific roadblock, mostly just me having trouble actually getting the words flowing. But I managed to get past that, so phew!
Thanks for the suggestions, they will definitely help once I start revising!
(handwriting ftw! except my hand hurts ow... also typing it after it's been written is no fun, and voice recognition is not nearly as helpful as I would like - though it does come up with some very funny misunderstandings!)

You're welcome! Hand writing does make getting it up a bit more difficult, but I also find that it's good for editing, since it forces you to actually go word for word over what you've written again. Of course, when the fic is around 70k, it makes for a lot of typing... ^^;;

I'm at 17,000, will make 25,000 by the deadline, and it'll only be about 50% done. Yes, there will be an ending and a beginning and a detailed outline, but 80% is not happening.

I'm close to 10k words. I was projecting a fic of about 25-28k words when I started so yikes.

Now I'm questioning all my life's choices and regretting my choice of story. I really really hope to get to 20k for submission.
